Boris Bidjan Saberi SS16

Hardly a newcomer to the fashion scene yet not quite yet a household name, Boris Bidjan Saberi launched his eponymous menswear label from Monistrol, a village outside Barcelona in Spain, in  2007. Since then, he has gained some global notariety, having been interviewed by the BBC in 2011, as well as opening his own store in the very fashion forward SoHo district just near TriBeCa in New York City last year. He has been fortunate enough to show his collections at the prestigious Paris Fashion Week since the inception of his brand. Boris Bidjan Saberi has said that he takes inspiration from his half German, half Iranian roots as well as his love for "street" culture. This, coupled with his amazing skills in leather work, give his collections a bit of a nomadic identity. He has managed to create something I know I have never seen; in the 2011 documentary on the BBC, he shows us a translucent leather he has created and he calls it a kind of second skin. (though he doesn't share the secret to how he made it.)

Most recently, he showed his Spring Summer 2016 menswear collection last week in Paris. The collection maintained a darker, monochrome colour palette with bright cobalt blue thrown in for something new. Throughout, one can see a bit of military, or utilitarian, and urban streetwear inspiration throughout the beautifully crafted tailoring and layered pieces. In addition to his well-known alchemy when it comes to leather, he experiments with new techniques in this latest collection including overwashed polyester.

In 2013, Boris Bidjan Saberi spun off the new label 11 by Boris Bidjan Saberi which consists of more "conventional" everyday streetwear. See more from Boris Bidjan Saberi on Facebook, Tumblr and Instagram. And if you are in New York, you can visit the store at 494 Greenwich Street.
