We have been following emerging Berlin-based label Umasan since we started this adventure, so we were so excited to be able to see and touch the collection in person during our visit to Tranoï in Paris. Later, we will bring you the menswear collection for Autumn Winter 16, but first, here is the collection for women.
One of the first attributes that drew our attention to Umasan was their stance on slow fashion, using organic and vegan-friendly fabrics coupled with their focus on high quality production with the health, safety and environmental concerns at the forefront of the Umasan brand ethos. They focus on using soy, Tencel, modal and bamboo fabrics, coupled with animal-friendly yarns, as the basis for their collections. They produce all garments in factories located near their Berlin studio who share their beliefs about sustainability and environmental integrity.
The overall appeal of the womenswear Autumn Winter collection, which is the 8th for Umasan, uses a more historically feminine twist on traditionally male garments. This somewhat androgynous look shows the empowerment and strength of the modern woman through a sense of timeless beauty. Umasan uses Japanese techniques to cut the fabric, leading to carefully considered and precise silhouettes. The result is beautifully crafted, impeccably fit, ultra-modern unique womenswear.
