Konsanszky Autumn Winter 16

We discovered emerging Hungarian label Konsanszky while wandering the halls of Tranoï during Paris Fashion Week. As the clothes are really strong, we stopped to have a chat with the brand and to our delight, we heard that not only are the designs superb, but ethics and sustainability are at the forefront of the design process as well!

Konsanszky was founded in 2006 by designer Dora Konsánszky. She places a strong focus on luxurious fabrics and impeccable tailoring, mixing the designers love of French poetry with strong structuralism. Dora’s outfits radiate strength and panache, most suited for successful and dynamic personalities with sophisticated taste, evolved style infused with the need for restraint and discretion.

The Autumn Winter collection, entitled DEEPSY, refers to the transcendent underwater world of the vast open deep seas, which Dora Konsanszky named as the main inspiration for the collection. The album titled Dive by Tycho, a defining formation of the US organic ambient music movement, set the mood for the design process.

One can see the influence of the sea in the supple, oiled and buffed leather in a deep sea turquoise colour used in some of the statement pieces in the collection, such as the trench coat, A-line skirt, tank and casual bomber jacket. Lighter shades of blue were used in some of the silk pieces, including the gorgeous top and long sleeved silk dress you can see below.

The tension of opposites is noticeable in the combined effect of undulating washed leather surfaces, mysteriously glowing, softly pleated sheer layers of silk and in the matte, light-absorbing properties of opaque wool georgette, of which the dresses and casual tops are made.

The staple colour used throughout, I'm sure you'll be surprised to hear from us, is black! We love it when designers can show how versatile black can be, through innovative shapes and partnering and manipulating fabrics. We love the black coats, especially the cocoon shapes and the updated take on the traditional trench. The overall style of the collection is a casual tailoring, structured yet flowing feel. Juxtaposition at every turn, lending maximum flexibility. As we say when we describe our aim, we want people to buy less, buy better quality and Konsanszky is definitely a brand that we can get behind.
