It is and always has been a great honour of ours to work with designers who are doing the "right thing" in the industry. Our designers are not only changing the way we work in fashion but also the consciousness of the industry as a whole. One of the latest examples is Saša Maksimiljanovic, the brains and creativity behind the brand MAKS. Below, you can read about her latest project, HUMAN.
-The situation we are all in these days is difficult and worrying, but it has given us time to stop and think about everything and hopefully become better people. People who care for each other, people who help each other, people who are humane. Because we haven't been human for a long time. We got lost in jobs, production, earnings, running around to get everything done, and we become people who care about obligations, not about each other. And now everything has stopped and it is time to get back to the beginning and become People. It's time for a change, let's become human, is the initial motto of the new HUMAN project by designer Sasa Maksimiljanovic and photographer Šime Eškinja.
After the earthquake that hit Zagreb, Saša Maksimiljanović, like many designers, was left without basic tools for work, but this didn’t take away her creativity and desire to create. At a time when shops are not working, together with a colleague and friend, esteemed fashion photographer Šime Eškinja, she decided to start a new trend and to remind people of the only important thing in life - to be humane, and to encourage them to become better people. BeHUMAN is the basic motto of a project initiated and created in isolation and as a result of the earthquake that struck Zagreb, which will for the start exist on social networks and online channels.
"We came up with the idea of BeHUMAN few months ago, but in these circumstances it gets an additional sense. The goal of the whole story is to encourage ourselves to think about everything, stay positive in these moments, and become aware of ourselves in order to come out of this situation as better people. Since the earthquake ruined our production, we will not be able to produce for a while, but we will therefore give other smaller manufacturers jobs and thus help each other and hopefully survive together during this period when our stores are closed and people do not buy and do not order as usual”, explained Saša Maksimiljanović.
The first pieces they present are a necklace bearing the message #beHUMAN and men's and women's T-shirts, and in the future, behuman quotes will come to life on other garments and accessories. Some of the messages the brand is spreading are "Time for a change .. be human", "Show someone you care .. be human", "Give someone hope .. be human", "Believe in people .. be human", "Don't be afraid to say I love you .. be human”, and they are posting it daily on a new instagram profile @human_is_my_philosophy, launched with the desire for people to start implementing those messages into their life.
"Behind the brand lies a much deeper story and our desire is that in the future, beHUMAN will be recognized as a kind of initiative by individuals to positively influence one another, respect and embrace diversity, and that people will increasingly help each other and spread that energy of humanity around the world." explains Šime Eškinja.
Saša and Šime have been greatly supported by colleagues, friends and associates, so the first persons to represent HUMAN, together with Saša and Šime, are designers Daniel Wahlberg, from Swedish brand Army of Me, Morana Krklec, from Croatian brand Mo design, Tadija Glasnović, from croatian brand Chypka, make up artist Ela Milković and PR managers Martina Matušin and Jasmina Kapetanović. Be a part of the story, follow the @human_is_my_philosophy instagram profile and spread messages to point out to each other at the little things that matters in life. "All this will one day pass, but we have to learn something from it, we must come out bolder and stronger, but also better people", emphasizes Sasa Maksimiljanovic.
