Discovering new fashion talents is the biggest highlight of curating The Journal. While in Paris, we were visiting the showrooms and came across this gem. Yvan Andreu was showing his previous work along with his latest collection New Space Age.
Yvan Andreu has fashion in his bones. Both his parents have worked in the fashion industry, his mother creating leather footwear and his father a manufacturer, so it is no surprise he would follow in their footsteps.
After completing his studies. he went on to start his eponymous label in 2014. He considers his collections as "fashion for the unconscious mind," looking for the future of fashion based on minimalism, straight and clear lines, and volume to develop the concept of maximum expression. Along with his use of complementary materials, such as lambskin with neoprene, he researches innovative techniques like 3D pattern cutting to achieve this aim. The Yvan Andreu brand is full of influences from his family to art, music, life and emotions through to psychedelic Japanese anime.
The New Space Age collection is a brilliant move forward for the label. His play on proportions is superb, taking traditional pieces and adding volume in all the right places. The collection also shows the refinement of Yvan's taste and processes. We have to admit, some of our favourite pieces are the outerwear below, including the pleated white jacket and the black neoprene jacket with the fur sleeves!
Welcome to the New Space Age!
