Matériel AW16

Emerging Designers Fashion Fashion Design

Materiel Tbilisi AW16 - Erebus

While one can argue that Matériel has in some form or another been around since 1949, it has only been around in it's latest iteration since 2003. What Matériel does is something truly unique. The label, in and of itself, is not a label in the traditional sense. They seek to promote budding Georgian designers and the way they do it is by allowing them to create the collections for Matériel, giving them a louder voice in the fashion world. We got a chance to see the two designers who created collections for Autumn Winter 16, Tiko Paksashvili and Aleksandre Akhalkatsishvili.

First, we take a look at the collection by Tiko Paksashvili. The inspiration for this collection was the illusion of reality. The space where we live, speak, breath, think, our real life which is abstract at the same time. In this collection reality is the illusion of reality.

Everything in the world is undercover. After every uncovered thing something is always left hidden and it takes us further and deeper.

Between reality and illusion exists a space, a line, which is formed by shapes that begin at the end of another and ends at the beginning, crating one spiral. Tiko recreated this spiral in her silhouettes where the final line of one piece is the beginning of another creating a circle, a spiral.

Now for the Aleksandre Akhalkatsishvili collection. This one was inspired by the existence of two spirits in one space.

Their inevitable intersection at one point through the time of existence, because of their linear movement. This intersection point is an ideal balanced state between spirits, lasts only seconds, and their separation cause chaos and misbalance.

These ideal intersected states create each garment and every other piece takes over parts of each other so that elements bring after connection.
