Jiri Kalfar is an emerging Czech designer with a boutique in Prague who has not studied fashion design, yet was trained as a ballet dancer. His background in dance helps him to appreciate the movement, lines and beauty of the body and you can see a sense of theatre throughout his collections. He plays with the ideas of gender by utilizing fabrics such as lace in menswear or creating oversized, draped tops that are displayed on both men and women. The Variable Black Tee is a perfect example of Jiri’s play on shape and gender as this tee can be worn by anyone and in several different ways. His designs are fairly minimalist which consist of clean lines while using luxury natural fabrics such as silk and cashmere. While fairly new to the fashion design world, Jiri has already shown his Autumn/Winter 2013 collection at Mercedes-Benz Prague Fashion Weekend as well as being invited to participate in the Unique Fashion Week/Range Rover Young Talent show with his Autumn/Winter 2014 collection. In addition to all of this as well as opening his own boutique in a fashionable area of Prague, Jiri Kalfar has achieved a lot in his relatively short but very busy time in the fashion world and we look forward to seeing what comes next.
