Bav Tailor was one of the most pleasant fashion designers we had the pleasure of getting to know during Paris Fashion Week. Bav, of Indian descent, is London born and now living in Milan. You can see the fusion of Eastern tradition with Italian craftsmanship, taking queues not only from her heritage but also from her life experiences.
We got to experience her Vishudda collection for Autumn Winter 2016 at Ozone Showroom. While we usually focus on brands with darker colour palettes, we loved the ethos of the Bav Tailor brand. Her collection was made with the modern, conscious woman in mind. Her silhouettes are strong, bold yet feminine all the same, a sort of understated elegance. The collection consisted of smart-casual pieces through to jaw-dropping gowns. We love a bit of deconstructed in our fashion, and there is plenty of that mixed in with the expert, handcrafted details.
One of our favourite tenets of the Bav Tailor brand is the focus on ethical, sustainable and eco-friendly practices. The collection is comprised of the usual sustainable materials, such as organic silks, bamboo, hemp and cottons through to luxurious vicuña. The favourite, and most surprising material, used in the collection was recycled fish skin! Though it looks like embossed or printed fabric, the turquoise strapless dress is, in fact, made from recycled fish skin and feels like a lovely suede. Another favourite of ours is the petrol coloured jacket with the asymmetric zip, which we are told is also made from a recycled fish skin.
In addition to the care and respect shown for the environment through the considered use of textiles, Bav Tailor also respects the people who make the garments. All Bav Tailor items are 100% made in Italy.
We believe designers like Bav Tailor are the future of fashion!
