We learned about emerging Lebanese designer Cylia Dorra during Paris Fashion Week and got the opportunity to see her Hatch collection for Autumn Winter 2016. Cylia was raised in the West before her journey to Lebanon, which in itself is a very diverse place. We were told that this dichotomy of her surroundings, including religion, culture, the arts, are what inspires her design sensibility. The Hatch collection represents a new life, an opening allowing passage between places, from where you are to where you want to be. The inspiration of architecture on her designs can be seen through the impressive structures of the garments. Among our favourites are those in the image at the top; the star shape of on the plane of the ombre dress and the amazing little black dress that every woman needs in her closet. While the structures of the garments are overall quite rigid, there is still something overwhelmingly feminine about the collection. Even the prints throughout the collection were created by Cylia. They are her take on murals and imagery found throughout houses of worship she has encountered in her journey.
This first collection by Cylia Dorra is quite impressive, we cannot wait to see what she comes up with next.
