She's back! I'm sure it comes as no surprise how much I love and admire the work of conceptual footwear designer Carolin Holzhuber. During Paris Fashion Week for this upcoming season, she was in Void Showroom to showcase her latest collection, NO, and stunned as usual. This latest collection is a bit more "wearable" than some of her previous work, where a good many of the pieces look arguably more like they belong in a museum (some, in fact, have been).
The concept of NO is an argument against the current state and politics of the fashion industry. Where everything is getting faster and our social media culture is expecting the newest, trendiest pieces at unreasonably low prices right now, NO is hand-crafted using extremely luxurious materials and are meant to be a special piece not everyone will own. Carolin crafts these shoes as a pedestal on which the sculpture of the human form can be placed. Each pair can take up to one month to create, as Carolin produces every pair in her studio in London by her own hand. NO uses some of Carolin's favourite materials, including leather, copper and carbon fibre for the soles.
