Nomen Nescio, the term, is used to signify an anonymous or unknown person. From Latin nomen, name, and nescio, I do not know, it literally means "I do not know the name." Nomen Nescio, the brand, is a timeless and gender neutral line of clothing haling from Finland. I had the pleasure of meeting the people behind this minimalist yet avant-garde brand at Ozone Showroom in Paris. I appreciate the luxurious fabrics which are mainly sourced from Italy. One exception, and this is the first I had ever heard of this one, there was a leather jacket in this collection which is made from a super smooth reindeer leather. All of Nomen Nescio's production happens in Tallinn in Estonia which further proves that these amazing emerging brands are more considerate of their social responsibility, leading the fashion industry into a more ethical and sustainable future.
My eye is always drawn to everything black, which is the colour palette used throughout Nomen Nescio. Using an all black colour palette forces a designer to focus on details, fits and fabrics to keep things interesting. Sleek knits, austere trousers and of course outerwear (they are Scandinavian after all) with functional yet interesting details are the hallmarks of the brand.
