Petrucha is the brand that taught me that sustainable shoes can be cool. I got the chance to catch up with them to hear more about how they produce their work while checking out their Spring Summer 2017 collection.
While many of the dyes used to give leather it's colour can be damaging to the environment, Petrucha uses vegetable tanning process in their work; it was impressive to see them achieve such a dark black through vegetable tanning as that is something you don't often. I also got to hear about a water based adhesive they use to keep everything together which is apparently stronger than traditional adhesives but way more eco-friendly. This process definitely falls under the "slow fashion" category as it takes quite a bit longer to create the finished product, but it is definitely worth the wait.
Given that Petrucha is a Spanish brand and this is their Spring Summer collection, there are quite a bit of toes on display in these unisex pieces. Unisex, sandals and eco-friendly are not easy to make look good, but this is exactly what Petrucha does so well this season.
