SHOHEI is a very new brand created by Austrian CEO & Creative Director Lisa Pek and Japanese CFO Shohei Yamamoto. Lisa is a graduate of the University of the Arts London/London College of Fashion with a degree in fashion & technology menswear. Lisa had also previously worked on projects for Vivienne Westwood GOLDLABEL, Vivienne Westwood MAN as well as for a big Japanese fashion house based in Tokyo. Shohei Yamamoto is a graduate of Tokyo University with an MA in economics, was an IT consultant at Accenture in Tokyo and currently works as a finance assistant manager at Coach NYC/Tokyo.
SHOHEI is a high-end ready-to-wear label for men and women with some accessories in the mix. They create high value garments with a focus on traditional craftsmanship and garment making techniques while also using modern technology in smart ways. They see their brand as fusing arts and crafts with functionality. SHOHEI uses sustainable and technological textiles and does not use any leather.
For this collection, Conservation of Mind, SHOHEI was inspired by how people interact with those with different cultural backgrounds and the existence of certain barriers among language, expression, mannerisms, et cetera. They have chosen more primary yet regal colours, such as royal blue, red, white and gold to symbolise the conservative mind-core of each culture.
For this collection, many of the pieces also play with the idea of transformation, allowing the pieces to serve different tastes, purposes and preferences.
